With a cinematic sound, and a projected film montage featuring shots of diamonds, lo-fi aliens invading Washington DC, and the band themselves to match, Brooklyn-based Starlight Girls took us on a psychedelic surf rock journey last night at Shea Stadium. With songs that wouldn’t be out of place on the next Quentin Tarantino movie soundtrack (QT favorites Shivaree came to mind as an influence), the set felt like an epic ’60s throwback filtered through trip-hop infused vocals and other more modern influences. We were completely drawn to their energy and ability to immediately get the crowd moving at the venue, and they definitely belong on every dive-bar jukebox in existence. We were also lucky enough to have Starlight Girls stop by the OAK Photo Studio on Monday to shoot them in some of our favorite fall arrivals. Stay tuned for that shoot and accompanying mix-tape from the band coming soon!
